God’s love letter
Celestial majesty, what words worthwhile
May I inscribe in verse? You care to dwell with me.
Your fertile letter forms love’s loveliest purse;
Something worthy, how can I compose?
To do justice to such exalted literature,
I can’t; God knows.
I can but set out to pen what’s on my heart.
I’ll not recant, and so to the start.
Did ever a healthier quest profit an hour
Than reading the divine Word manifest,
Bestower of enabling power?
Love and judgment mingle in zest.
Twenty four years it’s kept me a Wayfaring man
Through joy and sadness, victory and fears.
Sometimes I’ve slipped in sideways look,
Damaging myself and the perfect plan;
Narrow its path, not sanctioning glances wide,
The front ways looking book
Warns of falls to either side.
The Book many a wayward way changes.
Standing unique amongst publications of our globe,
Godly insight irradiates its vast knowing range,
As into the human heart it piercingly probes.
Reaching into every human situation,
It discerns between soul and spirit.
Authorship belongs to the God of creation:
Treasures immeasurable its pages inhabit.
Sole true judge of man’s thoughts and attitudes,
Personally and perennially it houses sensation.
From Genesis through the glorious Beatitudes
And climbing to its pinnacle in Revelation,
From cover to cover, if properly read,
Its potential purposes to invest heavenly seed.
Enlivening nucleus arouses the spiritually dead,
Speaking words of life to human need.
Bread of heaven, seed of glory,
Molder of the new-made man in re-creation,
It beckons all men to a different story,
Supremely addressing his need of salvation.
God earnestly searches out a lover
Who will take time to know His word.
For he who devours His words like no others,
From the Source utterance will be heard.
Holding the key to mystery divine,
It weaves a worthy wealth of force benign.
When willingly he’ll run the course,
Man’s spirit and God’s intertwine.
As the Every Man Book of every age,
It speaks to many and not the few;
Bounteous life indwells sage pages,
Matchless its power to renew.
Honored by the godly person
For keeping ability and holding strength,
It breathes to the heart of human reason
In breadth, other worldliness and length.
Hope pervades faith’s overcoming power
In central, meaningful themes;
Beg to spend and go that extra hour,
With the radiance that from it beams.
Possible of description as love’s labor gained,
Freshness of reading characterizes its lines.
Man’s heart becomes warm and sainted;
For it’s the living word on which he dines.
As rain opens a crushed, closed flower,
And sun shines from a smiling sky,
Its refreshing waters sprinkle healing showers,
On the flower that would otherwise die.
Consider present-day life, its empty monotony,
Sad strife and grating noise, its inner pain,
How it wears away at man’s security,
Often attacking like a weevil on stored grain.
In soul attraction the letter contrasts
Starkly to the contemporary scene.
Anointed ability lives and lasts;
The world long ago became nasty and mean.
Unhealthy influences it out casts,
Deep digging answers to nagging questions
Reply. Godly character it builds in credence,
Impacting with lasting satisfaction,
And gaining victory over the question why.
Offering fruition to the awakening soul,
Containing varieties of eternal dimension,
Its authority desires to make man whole.
Even after heaven and earth pass away,
And the elements cease to be,
Its eternal worth will have its say,
Because it shapes man’s destiny.
Yet most people in its commencement find difficulty,
Ever missing out on its transcendent worth.
Salvation transforms its innate capacity,
Providing promising planned paths for people on earth;
The respondent will adore its leading to the land of the free.
Of wisdom, comfort, a living philosophy to avail,
It rolls down the eras of man. As the lamp to his feet,
Its pages shine forth the illuminated trail,
Presenting hard victory over defeat.
Its goal the heavenly home and hearth,
Cords of love lace the earnest to kingdom heights.
Occasionally a solitary, sightless path,
Yet it draws sincere seekers to elevate our sights.
Godly men over centuries long
Obediently scribed the kingdom guide.
Full the literature of heavenly song,
Lovingly imbibed, it imparts sure wisdom.
Departure from the world it considers no loss,
Finished, completed long aeons ago,
Faithful the fire that drives out dead dross,
Professing, ‘you shall reap what you sow.’
Throughout time myriads have believed;
Yet deceivers stumble not a few on the way.
The Deceiver with traps of unbelief many deceives,
Especially now towards the end of days.
The colossus pertains to every human situation
From dawn of time to through and after salvation.
As the final expression of His love letter,
In sending His Son, God could do no better.
Clear as a clarion the call cries:
‘My wedding banquet awaits;
Earnestly draw near: anticipate.’
Live streams course through love’s pages,
Crying to all: ‘Messiah’s risen,
Dying, He no more dies.’
The ancient call is the call of the ages.
Life eternal lies on the proffered dish,
Saying, ‘Come My sons and daughters,
Answer your Sovereign’s wish.
Drink the living waters.’
Savor life beyond thinking thoughts;
Death defeated stands, men’s souls He’s bought.
If our spirits so desire, in us evermore he’ll dwell;
Loving hands carry coals of purifying fire
To prepare us for the final knell.
