Zee Gorman, nee Zihong (Red Child) Yan, is a bilingual writer of Chinese and English.

Born and raised in China during the Cultural Revolution, Zee lived through a tumultuous time of political and cultural upheaval. Her childhood was spent with her grandmother while her parents were banished to the countryside for “re-education.”

Despite illness in her teen years that threatened to debilitate her, her love for literature gave wings to her imagination. She eventually recovered and went on to earn two Master’s Degrees in English – one from Wuhan University and the other from Northern Arizona University.

While in China, she wrote for Guangzhou Daily and published her poems and essays in a women’s magazine, but her desire to express her thoughts freely led her to the United States in 1991.

Writing in English in 2009, she is the author of the first English fantasy fiction series written by a Chinese native – “The Altethlon Chronicles.” The first two self-published novels, “The Queen’s Hero and the Ubion Princess” and “Snowdrops and the Night Warriors” received rave reviews from readers. Stories about her experiences in the Cultural Revolution, the Tiananmen Massacre, and immigration to the United States can be found on her blog.

Zee lives in Northern California with her husband, her daughter and two cats. She has a career in IT management, but writing is her first love. Her ambition is to for her work to be read widely and her name to be recognized alongside J.K. Rowling and J.R. Tolkien.
