Social networking sites really anti-social?

It has become more convenient than ever to communicate with others. Through the abundance of social-networking sites, you can keep tabs on just about anyone with an internet connection. But are these sites really socially supportive? Or do they rather encourage anti-social tendencies? I've developed a quote I believe states my position.... "Communication contingent on convenience is cavernous."
