Meeting Agents at Conferences Versus Query Letters

Next month I will be pitching my second novel to an agent at a writer's conference here in Southern California.  Since this is the novel I believe will be my breakthrough piece, it is the one I most want represented by a respectable agent.  Personally, I feel that the direct interaction with an agent offers a superior chance at establishing that relationship between myself and an agent (especially since I believe I make a much better impression in person).  What are your opinions?  Did you find that meeting an agent at a conference increased your ability to find representation significantly over simply sending a mass amount of query letters?
