I have been transfixed and glue to all forms of conversation that is being discussed over these past many weeks regarding the debt ceiling. I believe that this is one of the many times that the base nature of this society has been depicted so clearly and without the ability to be skewed because what is being broadcast are not what we think someone said, we are actually hearing and seeing what they said ourselves. The ability to find out everything about everyone 24/7 has so many downsides that a person could write an entire series of books about why this is not such a good thing. That being said, the word selfish hardly captures the reality of what our society has become. I wish that I could just say it is those people on the Hill however I think it is all of us. Our failure to act when the well was dry for those other people now has come to affect our own wells. Now, everyone but those who were already millionaires wells' are dry and becoming cracked and disintegrating in the heat.
On the backs of our children and those who are already having a hard time, we play games and we cut budgets. Education is the cornerstone of how any peoples come up from struggle and yet we constantly take away that cornerstone and cripple our children. The legislators that were elected, and I would say most are already millionaire's and have a nice healthy investment portfolio, allow this government and society to crumble. They say we just missed a downgrade of our credit rating, I say we have been downgraded. Downgraded because it is evident that the NIMBY principle (not in my backyard) is pervasive on the Hill. Tax cuts, I guess, are only for the poor; the rich, well they would rather step over the homeless and the disenfranchised than to stop and give them a penny. Tax cuts and sharing the burden and giving a little and the principle of "random acts of kindness" mean absolutely diddly squat (I know maybe not real words but you get that feeling) to these men and women of wealth and privilege.
If as a group of elected officials who are unable to get their own house in order, how I beg you do they expect to govern? Compromise in any and all relationships is what makes families, business, friendships work. Having a one-sided relationship where one always comes out on top eventually makes that one on the bottom feel bad, feel used and unappreciated and often times there is a reaction that is negative. In terms of families, there is a disintegration that begins from the inside and is manifested outside of the family in a lot of turmoil and inner conflict. The home then becomes a place where no one wants to be and therefore the home is fractured. When it comes to friendships that fracture causes a parting of the ways that may sometimes never repair and people subsist on not talking and when it comes to work, without compromise the job is a hostile place.
This debt ceiling debate was, as far as I was concerned, like watching a bunch of children playing on the school yard at recess. Everyone trying to have as much fun as possible before the bell rings and it is time to go back into the classroom and do some work, blech! In this case, these men and women we have elected see the television, the radio and the written word as the way they play. They play with our future's on the playground of life. Regardless of what side of the political debate you affiliate the fact of the matter is that there should not be anyone watching or listening who does not realize that our elected government officials are in need of a good old fashioned spanking! Not the kind that would leave a bruise however the kind where each one of them would be sent outside to pick their own switch/twig off the tree, bring it back into the house (and it better not be a small switch) and let the mom/dad give them a good ole swipe to the backside so that they can realize we mean business.
At the end of the day our elected officials did increase the debt celling but again at what cost? The veil has come off and now we really see that the wizard is just a little ole' scared man pushing buttons behind the screen, hoping that no one has the nerve to come around and look at him manipulate the world into the comfortable life for him and his friends.
