Strong Beginnings: A Workshop for Novelists

It is crucial to make a good impression in the first five pages. Mistakes include starting the story in the wrong place or using an action scene that serves no purpose. The class reads first chapters of published books to determine what makes them successful. We’ll also analyze the first five pages of students’ novels. Wendy Nelson Tokunaga is the author of Midori by Moonlight and Love in Translation.
