My Dearest Friend and Soulmate,
I keep on thinking that I'm making money. But when the monthly statements arrive, you remind me that I haven't made a penny in quite a while. I could blame the hydrochlorathyazide. It might be affecting my judgement, as well as making me pee, volumes. Going just the one block to the Market makes me feel like I'm in India, Tibet and Africa. It's a rather inexpensive trip, really......no hotel or airline costs.
I'm honestly, not trying to bankrupt us. I'm just getting caught in a net of unholy rapture, circumstantial bliss, and magnetic, cultural forces. The fine delicate silks, the spheres and squares of glass beads, pearls and stones; and the awkward shapes and colors of cotton things to be worn are some of the enticing treasures that overcome my once, powerful constitution.
But, now, I am so frail, so drawn to the excitement of the art and music of the festival and so unable to leave, as it closes for another week. What will save me from this repetitious borage of handcarved bracelets and shimmering, exotic, tribal handbags, shirts, shawls and skirts?
It's only midsummer. It's much too soon for a winter snow storm. Oh, damn those blizzards! This is no country for old men......or women!
I'll see if I can trade some of my handmade things for theirs, at the festival........next weekend.
I promise to practice restraint. I will not go near an ATM. (Luckily, I didn't spend all of this week's cash.) In fact, I've saved a lot of money by spending cash. No tax....you know. Just think how much more we'de be in debt if I had used a credit card! If you like, we could calculate how much cold, hard cash we have actually saved :)
On this last note, I hope you'll be smiling in the morning. I'll make you waffles with fruit :D Please wear your finest suit.....you know, the one that I bought you at that big Plaza sale, twenty-five years ago.
Your Dearest Friend and Soulmate, Lover and Companion of thirty years,
P.S. If we ever have 'no fixed address', could we stand next to each other in the food line? I've heard the pickin's ain't bad :)
