A Secret Santa Story

When I overheard my older child explain the non-existance of Santa to his younger brother, I knew that there was nothing more for me to add to the conversation.

My all-knowing older child explained the fun of pretending to believe in the story of Santa...like all the other kids did.

My sons' secretly shared knowledge became their special way of prancing through the holidays, aloof and confident.

They could not be fooled anymore but, nor could they be stopped from giving gifts from 'Santa'.

The shear joy of giving anonymously became a wonderful holiday tradition.

And today, my only son enjoys donating to 'Child's Play' or other charities whenever he can.

Since losing his older brother a decade ago, giving is his way of receiving.

The joy he knows young children feel when receiving gifts is a happiness he knows about, cherishes deeply and loves to share by being a 'Secret Santa'.

Little Wise Man

Yes, Jodi...Seumas had figured out the Santa concept when he was quite young but he enjoyed watching Philippe's excitement over Santa until one year he gently spilled the  information... with unexpected results!

I think Philippe feels a quiet connection to his deceased brother, when he anonymously donates gifts.
