About Me

  • I grew up in a farm in Iowa.  In the summer I would lay in the green grass looking at the sky and daydream about the people in the jets that passed overhead.  I traveled about the U.S. in my old beat up car, managed to get a couple of degrees in science and engineering, got married to a Greek fellow, birthed two lovely daughters who are now 16 and 20 . . .and convinced my husband we should live on Crete.

  • "What the heck happened?"

    November 21, 2009

    • Timoth G Volm Inside every older person is a younger person wondering, "What the heck happened?" Timoth, I love your thoughts. This one is one I know I will quote often because it encapsulates how I spend so many hours of the day.  We thought we were making the world better and as the years passed reason would help all the variables towards the positive, and everything would ...
  • Working title - Faith will find away Chapter 2b, We meet Thalia in Kallisti (fiction novel)

    November 19, 2009

    • Metropolis, the capital city of Kallísti, is considered the most flourishing seaport of the True Ocean.  Not only trade and business, also the exchange of knowledge, religion and adventure draw travelers to the uniquely designed harbor.  There exist as many reasons to visit this world center as there are visitors. The curious are drawn to Kallísti by their dream of what the fruits of love ...
  • Thinking about Hansel and Gretel (Daily Life in Crete)

    November 19, 2009

    • I rave a lot about how healthy the food is in Crete and how fresh.  I haven't said anything yet though about how messy it can be to eat.  Even with lots of napkins and care I always leave a little trail whenever I eat.Probably that sounds like a mistake - leaving a little trail while I eat, but I have never learned to slow down long enough to sit down when I eat.  So like Hansel and Gretel I ...
  • Bring and Take the Definitive Usage Rule

    November 12, 2009

    • The misuse of the words bring and take has become so annoying to me that I practically did a back flip, I was so happy to read the following usage discussion from "Daily Writing Tips."  Bring and Take Posted: 12 Nov 2009 04:23 AM PST Writers tend to get confused about when to use bring and take. Many think that the two words can be used interchangeably, but they do have two ...
  • Red Room author Lawrence Wright on panel discussing Afghanistan.

    October 30, 2009

    • One of my favorite Red Room authors, Lawrence Wright, was part of a distinguished panel discussing the U.S.A. and al-Quaeda on the news program, Empire which can be viewed on Al Jazeera English.  Mr. Wright wrote the ruthlessly researched book "The Looming Tower: The Road to 9/11."Journalist Marwan Bishara hosts a  varied group which also includes, General Richard Myers, Dr. Marc ...

  • Midwest grammer, the best way to go

Hi Sue! I hope everyone remembers to use bring and take correctly. I guess it's such a sensitive point for me because I interpret things very literally.
  • Sounds like a real challenge!

I am very addicted to the news.  I downloaded Livestation so now I have Al Jazeera English which I enjoy and PressTV and NASA and RussianTV.  AND Livestation has chatrooms . . .

  • ps on the sugar addiction

My therapist told me I needed sugar because I wasn't finding sweet things to do for myself. I need to find the sweetness in life, then I wouldn't need so much sugar.
  • they exist . . .

Lance, You have written this so beautifully, I swear when I read it I heard an Irish lilt to the words.
