The basketball game is in the fourth quarter with only 6 minutes left to paly. Spain vs. Greece. And ever since about the halfway mark of the 3rd quarter the Spanish team has been flying. the score is Spain 73 and Greece 54. The Spanish team is on fire! the Greek team is tired and can't keep up when the game turns and spain heads for their on basket to score.
It is still an exciting game with a lot of tension and a lot 3 point tries from the back of the court by the Greeks. This is a really fun game to watch because the teams are both from very expressive cultures. Even now there are a lot of smiles and talking back and forth. Both teams play a very physical game. They play on top of each other a lot of the time. Full body fouls seem to happen every two or three minutes. But the teams are courteous and having fun.
When both teams are polite to each other and having fun, sports are really fun. The Greek National teams whether basketball or soccer are always polite. If they trip someone or knock them down they reach out their hand to help them up. There are no nasty looks with swearing . (I couldn't even take my girls to University of Connecticut girls soccer because the young women were vicious and "swore like sailors.")
I also enjoy the announcers. we (Greece) just make 2 points bringing the score to Sp 79 and Gr 60. The announcer is so excited and happy, congratulatory to the player.
In Olympic Game Events the announcers are also respectful of all the participants. Listening to the U.S.A. commentators is very shocking because somewhere in the last 15 years they have descended into a ridiculing and/or rude commentary for anyone not from the U.S.A.
I used to try to come every August to Greece so I could follow basketball. In the past Yugoslavia had the best teams every year. They were made for basketball. I always miss their national team now that their country has become fragmented.
Oh, these boys, are so cute. They are flashing little smiles, no grandstanding or overbearing egos. I think their mothers are very proud whether they win or lose!
The end of the game. Spain wins by a big spread yet they teams are shaking hands and hugging each other. I enjoy sports here a lot.
Thanks for your company. Since Kleo broke up with her high school sweetheart I'm the only sports fanatic left in the family. It's been a lot more fun blogging with my friends at RedRoom as if you were right here with me!
