where the writers are
Book readings!

This may be the most boring blog ever. Certainly, the most boring I've written, because it's all all about self promotion. But if it's self promotion for a good cause, does that change things?

I thought so ...

Well, after a lot of exhausting rewrites, editing, e-mailing and phone calls, the contributors to "Knowing Pains: Women on Love, Sex and Work in Our 40s" had a launch party last Saturday at Scharffen Berger in Berekely. Besides meeting all the great women who contributed their funny, insightful and honest essays, we had some awesome chocolate, food and wine. And, we got to celebrate the fact that the book is No. 1 on Amazon.com in the breast cancer category.

So, now we're ready to start our book readings. I realize I've never been great at public speaking — I tend to trip over my own words (that's why I became a writer, not a public speaker!) — so if any authors have any tips on book readings, I'd be eternally grateful.

In the Bay Area, we'll be reading at

— 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at Borders Books, 588 Francisco Blvd. West, San Rafael
— 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Pleasures of the Heart, 1310 Fourth St., San Rafael
— 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 Books Inc., 2251 Chestnut St., San Francisco
— 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at Book Passage, 51 Tamal Vista Blvd., Corte Madera

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and all proceeds from the book go directly to the Breast Cancer Fund in San Francisco

We have some events across the country, too.

Stop by and listen and share ... if we have to have a midlife, might as well share the pain, er, joys ...
