I've been watching all the talk about the rise of e-books with some intererst. My Poisoned Pen press books are available in most e-book formats, including Kindle, and the numbers sold is rising quickly. I have a couple of out of print books that I have the copyright for, so decided I'd dip my toes into the water of publishing one of them myself. Murder at Lost Dog Lake was written in 2003, and published in 2004 by a tiny online publishing company. That that venture was an enormous mistake on my part isn't relevant here. I earned a grand today of $3.25 from the book, but it is considered 'published' therefore pretty much useless for anything else but self-publishing it. It's a short (60,000 words) very straightforward mystery novel. A group of people on a wilderness canoing trip find themselves trapped in the storm of the century, and one of them is a killer. The protaganist is an ex-policewoman, now PI, and bitter single mother. The book is up at Amazon.com and at Smashwords. For the low, low price of $2.99. Give it a try, and if you have a mind to, please leave a review or comment.
