Veronica Rabb Hensley's Biography
Member Info
I have a degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, NC in Secondary English/Education and did graduate work at Applachian State University in English Literature. I have been writing since childhood and wrote for my high school newspaper The Marionette and the local paper, The McDowell News in Marion, NC; the Meredith College Herald in Raleigh, NC and for The Blowing Rocket, in Blowing Rock NC. I love to write, read and teach all literary genres especially poetry, drama and essays. My published poetry includes the winner of The Editor's Choice in 2004 for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry presented by poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry. I had an earlier poem published in the Young (and Forever Young) Authors Anthology under the auspices of the NC Reading Association in the mid-90's.
I have written and produced or have had produced seven stage plays ranging from one and two acts to full length with original music. One such full-length play is Journey to Sarbor written and presented while I served as Founder/Director of The Blowing Rock Playmakers funded by grants from the Town of Blowing Rock and The NC Arts Council. As Director of the Theatre Arts Department at Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville, NC, I directed more of my work including The Heritage Tree which was commissioned and produced by Alexander County in celebration of its Sesquicentennial.
Currently I am performing as the Wicked Witch in The Green Room's production of The Wizard of Oz in Newton, NC. I teach private piano and acting lessons and entertain in various local venues. I write sporadically at present and would like to be more focused and productive.
I found out about Red Room when reading about Poetry Hickory which is near my home in Bethlehem, NC. Red Room seems like just the inspiration and impetus I need to fulfill my publishing dreams; specifically of my plays, a book of poetry, a book of children's stories, and a book about teaching theatre arts.
Thank you!
