Travis Heermann grew up on the plains of rural Nebraska, reading about hobbits, vampires, Cimmerians, Tharks, and Jedi, and this forever twisted him into his current warped persona. These characters so inspired him that he started writing novels when he was 14. Since then, he has been an electrical engineer, a dairy farmer, a construction worker, a web designer, a comic shop clerk, a pilot, a game designer, a martial artist, a bookseller, an English teacher, and a freelance writer, in no particular order. He spent three years living in Japan, working as an English teacher, returning to the U.S. in 2006.
Since 2006, he has been a full-time professional writer, with designs on an M.A. in English. His second novel, Heart of the Ronin, will be published in a library-edition hardcover by Five Star Publishing in April 2009. His first novel, an epic fantasy entitled The Ivory Star, was published in 1996 by Commonwealth Publications. He has sold three short fiction pieces to the online venues The Harrow and On the Premises, and recently garnered his first print magazine sale with a horror story to Cemetery Dance magazine, to appear sometime in 2008. Since 1999, he has been a freelance writer and game designer, lending his talents to over twenty roleplaying supplements for Alderac Entertainment Group's Legend of the Five Rings, Swashbuckling Adventures, Warlord, and Dungeons & Dragons d20 System game lines. He has contributed over twenty articles to Scrye and Undefeated magazines, AJET across Japan, and Midlands Business Journal. He also writes online game content for EVE-Online, a science-fiction massive multiplayer online role-playing game, and publishes a successful blog about the writing life, Blogging the Muse, posting weekly interviews with working genre authors such as Joe Lansdale, Jack Ketchum, Melinda Snodgrass, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, and Robert Reed.
