Today in my email I received what Norman Rush, in his recent Paris Review interview, refers to a rave rejection letter. So I guess that is progress. I submitted to a small outfit called Atticus Books that I ran across on here. They were very nice about my novel.
We certainly appreciate and share your appetite for satire and believe that your abilities as a writer are clear from the work you've sent. However, we feel that the tone and personality of your work are not an ideal fit for our press. As a small, independent publisher, it is crucial for us to be selective in the works we decide to publish and, unfortunately, Moonbeam Highway does not fit our publishing strategy for 2011.
So it appears they read more than paragraph one, and thought highly enough of it to send something more than the usual form letter or nothing at all. I guess that is what's known, in this business, as progress. Anyway Dan, I appreciate that you or your people took the time to read some of it, and had something nice to say.
