I'm working full time and teaching an online class and have a quickly approaching deadline for Seduced by the Wolf, and now I'm guest blogging several times a week for weeks. So how to fit it all in???
Pre-write the guest blogs EARLY--ensure you have a list of sites you want to share: Your myspace, facebook, twitter, website, blogs you frequently write so that potential fans can learn more about you if they want. A brief bio. A link to buy your book.
Send a jpg of you, and your book cover.
Send these things early! Twice I've been asked to fill in as a guest blogger, once for a featured guest!! And I had tons of sales. So I wondered why anyone would not send in their guest blog material when scheduled.
Since I've got so many things going at once, I began listing them on a calendar via my email so that I get a notice a couple of days ahead that it is coming up. But also, if you have Google Alerts, it will alert you that you have a new posted guest author blog up. Then you can take that blog link and post it all over the world and back, which means on your blogs, facebook, twitter, myspace, etc. Make sure you do this because it shows to the host that you really, really wanted to be on their site, to help draw readers, to give the host site lots of views, to show you are a team player. Because they take a lot of time out of their busy schedule to highlight you, the author, we should make every effort to advertise our guest slot to draw a crowd. As much as possible. What's the worst thing that can happen? Neither the host or you promote and nobody shows up. Just like a Mary Tyler Moore party.
I don't list my virtual tours on my website because I don't have actual links to my blogs for that date until the day of the event and I just don't have time to list all this stuff. Although I guess I could do so in a schedule...I'll be here, type of thing. But then you've got to remember to go back in and update it all the time, and I just don't have the time. We always want our websites to have links that work, no old dated stuff, all the new stuff up there...book covers, blurbs, etc. I just added the Seduced by the Wolf cover on the upcoming releases, but no blurb yet. I will as soon as I finish writing the story. :) I had 122 views on my website yesterday. Some check it out regularly~~which is why you want to add new content periodically, but I have a lot of new views also. And yes, this is relevant to guest blogging. :) If you're putting your name, your books, and your presence on the web (blog site/website), it needs to be updated, BEFORE everyone views it. Which means I probably should have had a blurb for Seduced by the Wolf up already. LOL...
Another something you can do is be the first, if no one has beat you to it, to comment on your guest blog. Check "email me about comments." Then comments on your guest blog will be sent to your inbox and you'll know to comment back. It's really great when you're doing several blogs at once, working and can't watch this constantly, and can't keep track of where you are. Which has happened to me. But the emails help me to get back to commenters without missing anyone.
Be sure and thank whoever is hosting you for the event. It's the polite thing to do! :) And you never know when out of the blue, someone asks you to guest blog with them, instead of you having to solicit! :)
And comment on commenter's comments. Even if someone says something that you have no idea how to respond to. :) Try to come up with something brilliant. You're a writer, after all. :)
Still time to comment at Star Crossed Romance until Friday for a free book! What is Urban Fantasy to you?
Off to seduce the wolf...
