For years I contributed to the Ronald McDonald House Teddy Bear Auction to help raise funds for families to be housed while they stayed near their children, hospitalized for cancer treatment.
When I was on active duty in the army, one of my jobs was approving hardship discharges or compassionate reassignments. I handled several cases where families had to have compassionate reassignments to be near a children's cancer research hospital. My heart always went out to them.
So when I was asked if I would donate an autographed book for Ava's auction to help provide funds to help for her care, I did, but also offered one of my 1950's dressed bears to take part as well. Here is all about Ava.
I'd like to tell you about a special little Power Ranger. Her name is Ava, she is one of the most energetic, smart and beautiful little girl's I have ever met in my entire life. Ava has touched the lives of many by bringing people together with her contagious smile and vibrant personality. Ava is five years old and is a kindergartener at Faxon Academy in Farmington, Michigan. On Tuesday the 26th of February 2013 she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Ava was taken into surgery at Beaumont Hospital on the following Friday and doctors were successfully able to remove 98% of the tumor in Ava's brain. The doctors are confident that most of the tumor was removed although, sadly enough, it is cancerous and Ava will need chemotherapy and radiation treatments for one year to remove the remaining cancer that exists. Family and friends will be asking for your assistance within the next few weeks. Any donations collected in Ava's favor will go towards her care and help her mother with monthly expenses such as house payments, utilities and the general care of Ava. Hopefully when Ava is well and has completed her treatments we will be able to provide a special trip for her to Disney World. We are planning a fundraiser for Ava and any donations in the form of money, gifts for raffles or food for a fundraising dinner to get started would be greatly appreciated.
