It's NOT your fault?
When I was a brand new 2LT in the Army stationed at Fort Hood, one of my many assigned duties was managing a duty roster for the 1st Cavalry Division Headquarters. An irate major called, chewing me out for giving him duty again. He was in such a tirade, I couldn't get a word in edge-wise.
Finally, I said, "Sir, I think you're talking about my sister, LT Wilde, who manages the AG Company duty roster."
He paused, and I was thinking, he'd accept that, but no, he went into another tirade. There was no way there were two 2LT female Wildes in the division, according to him. He swore at me, cursed several times, told me he'd call over there, but he was telling my Col what I was pulling and I would get written up for it. Because the other Wilde didn't exist.
I wasn't really worried because he wasn't on my duty roster, which I had told him in a very nice way. I gave him my sister's work number. I never heard back from him. That night when I saw my sister, I asked if the major had called her.
Yep, he was really nice.
If he'd been decent, he would have called and apologized. And I would have been fine with that. But he didn't. And you know what? He would never ever be a hero in my book.
So years later, a couple of days ago, I call about getting a tree service to finally come out and cut down some branches on trees that are going to hit the roof in a bad wind. The secretary said that the tree trimmer would call me and set up an appointment.
I get this call, and this guy is IRATE. He's furious because of a cancellation at 9:30 last night. Nine-thirty! He had to call all his team at 6 in the morning to cancel on them. He's furious.
I'm thinking, good, if he got a cancellation, maybe he could come to my house.
He's still ranting and raving and ranting and raving, and I'm just thinking, uhm, okay, I'd be pissed off too, but...can you come over and give me an estimate on trimming my trees, please?
But I let him vent because he probably needs that more than he needs to give me an estimate, and I think his secretary is waving her hands at him, shaking her head furiously, and maybe shoved a note under his nose saying, "That lady wants an estimate!!!!! She's not the one who cancelled last night!!!"
There's a significant pause.
Then apology, longer explanation of what went down, tons more apologies...more apologies...more apologies...we had the same first name, and both our last names started with an "S."
I did get my estimate finally. LOL
Soooo, have you ever been yelled at and it's not even your fault?
