Just a quick note to anyone reading this: my first published novel, "From Where The Rivers Come," was awarded an "honorable mention" in the Fiction category at the New York Book Festival for small-published and self-published works "deserving greater recognition."
This is the first award for fiction I've won since high school, and the first professional award with a certificate I've been awarded since my string of South Carolina Press Association awards in the early 1990s!
The awards ceremony was a blast, especially considering it was held at The Algonquin Hotel. Naturally, like other award winners, I had my photo taken (by my wife) posing with my book in front of the famous painting of The Algonquin Round Table (aka "the Vicious Circle").
I met some great writers. There's a lot happening in the literary world, and some of it actually still in the New York area.
Let's see what happens with the next book - either self-published or, if I find an agent and/or a publisher...
