AT VALENCIA AIRPORT waiting to catch my flight to Madrid, I watch the sunset through large glass windows, and it evokes an extreme sense of tranquility in me. Airports are usually such chaotic places. Especially nowadays, with all the security checks, tempers always flare up and everyone seems to be annoyed most of the time. Amidst all this din, I feel an extreme sense of peace and calm, immersed in the present moment, affected neither by moments gone by nor by moments to come. Waiting to catch my flight is synonymous with death itself.

Are we not all waiting to catch the ultimate flight that leads to our Maker? When flying on a plane we are off the ground and unattached to this earth. Flying and death are so alike in many ways. When on the plane we are all alone, all our loved ones left behind and all our possessions safely tucked away. By the same token we leave this world alone, with no one and with nothing. Just as we enter an aircraft to fly to a new destination, so shall we one day enter the aircraft of death and fly out of this world, and into our final abode.
