where the writers are
Sweet Home Alabama

I’m headed south today, to the Southern Voicesconference, a fantastic event at the Hoover Library near Birmingham, Alabama. I was lucky enough to go last year, although this time I don’t plan to drive home at 1am and get a flat tire when pulling into Franklin, Tennessee at 4am. Live and learn! It’s been a perfect winter here in Chicago (yes, I mean that in all seriousness….I love cold weather….yes, I’ve found the climate where I should live), but I’m not going to complain about a couple of days of sunny warmth, especially when I get to come home to exactly what I want.

If there’s one thing a girl needs when traveling, it’s a well-filled iPod (and an excellent book). So help me out, will you? I need some songs. What would you pick in the following categories?

1. Something that will put you in a good mood

2. Something romantic to make you smile on the plane

3. Something that will get you ready to give a talk in front of hundreds of people

4. Something to listen to while drifting off to sleep

5. An all-time-not-to-be-missed favorite

Finally, I’m extremely pleased to announce that my next novel, TEARS OF PEARL, will be published in September. It’s set in Constantinople, 1892, and Emily’s embroiled in murder and intrigue in the sultan’s harem. I’m officially celebrating having finished the book by seeing The Abduction at the Seraglio at the Lyric Opera. Can’t wait……

Have a great weekend!
