I’m going to go ahead and spend some time writing my own blog tonight. I’m a little irritated. Well, a lot! I got a few bones to pick all with the same theme.
I’m going to go ahead and start with the ignorant bitchasses that keep saying…
“You’re just voting for Obama because he is black!”
I will try and respond to this without cursing or getting angry.
Since I’m a factual kinda gal, let’s look at the facts.
Since 1964 blacks have been voting democrat. Actually before that, but that is when the right became official. There has never been a black democratic presidential candidate until this year. Which means the obvious, blacks have been voting for white presidents. 83% of Blacks voted for President Bill Clinton in 1992 and 84% of blacks voted for him in 1996. Clinton’s wins were a 5% win in 1992 and 8% win in 1996. In 2204 John Kerry(caucasian) got 88% of the black vote. Point is, if it wasn’t for the black American population, Bill Clinton would have never won as president. Black people put him in office.
Now with that being said, a lot of black Americans went into the primaries, ready to back Hillary Clinton, based on the fact we liked Bill and how things were when he was in office. I for one, was someone who strongly stood behind HRC until a week before my primary (thank gawd). A lot of black supporters stuck it out longer then me. Then one day, in South Carolina, President Bill Clinton seemed to forget everything about who put him where he is today. He somewhat offended some and deeply offended others when he made the statement that lessened the value of Barack Obama, as if Obama was just another black candidate who didn’t have a chance to win the election. Not only was the remark a racist generalization, but it was just downright racist and insulting to such a man as Barack Obama. That was the first straw though. Some of us still stuck it out. Then the Clintons went on a white trash tirade to get voters in the states that racism was very prevalent. Now they didn’t go into West Virginia and Kentucky with a clean campaign. They didn’t defend blacks when those of ignorance made religious and racial accusations of Barack Obama, for the sake of the party. For the sake of all the black people that put Bill in office. For the sake of the power of their word being bond when Bill apologized to Tuskegee Airmen for the wrong this country did to them. For the sake of all those in Harlem that looked to Bill as the closest thing to a friend in a higher place that actually cared about the treatment of blacks in this unjust and racist country. He didn’t think about that. He thought about winning, at any cost, without dignity. THAT is what lost him the votes in the black community. If Hillary would’ve won the primary, then there would be a lot of black democrats that would’ve still voted for her even though they preferred Obama.
On another level, “You’re just voting for Obama because he is black!” is implying that as a black person, I don’t look at policies and compare candidates. I don’t have needs and wants from the country that I am a citizen of. You’re saying that I don’t look at the war, education for the youth as well as college students. Also, that I don’t look at healthcare for those that don’t have, can’t afford, or the elderly. That I don’t look at the shape of our country/world when I decide to have babies and raise them in the United States. Also, that I don’t care about the injustices inside our countries political system. That I don’t care the kind of chemicals are being put into pet food or on children toys, and the places those chemicals come from. That I don’t care about the 4000+ soldier lives lost and 93,000+ civilian lives lost over a war that was started for personal reasons. You are saying that because I’m black, I don’t care about global warming and the fact that polar bears can’t get food and will soon be extinct if we don’t see changes in how we use energy and preserve our environment. You are also saying that because I’m black, that maybe I walk or take the buss? Because there is no way I could be worried about gas prices. Right?
I was gonna talk about some other things but Ill save that for another blog..marinate in this for a while. And before you blurt that shit out one more time! Remember, being black in america..alot is at stake so we tend to take serious our President. Its the rest of ya'll that are just now catching on to that! I guess you got to go thru some shit to appreciate it...right?
