After teaching elementary school for 24 years (as well as children's musical theater for several of those years) I left the classroom (and the stage) to focus on writing. Working parttime as a copyeditor/proofreader, I'm able to spend mornings writing at home. I've written many poems, several plays, and one middle-grade novel. I'm currently working on a chapter book designed for kids in 3rd & 4th grades called The Guinea Pig Wars.
I belong to the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and I am the editor of Write Angles, the newsletter for the Berkeley Branch of the California Writers Club, which is the oldest writing club in the country, founded in 1909. I sing in a community chorus, the Berkeley Broadway Singers, and I am a writer coach at Martin Luther King Middle School.
