Writer/DJ Tamara Palmer smartly avoided the urge to attempt a be-all, end-all retrospective tome with her first book. Instead, she compiled a pause-tape style piece mixing together photos, playlists and great interviews with everyone from Uncle Luke/Lil Jon level megastars to folks like Chyna White and Ying Yang Twins producer Beat-In-Azz. The loose format allows for off-the-cuff insights like David Banner's assertion that even classic NYC rap songs could classify as "Southern records" since the breaks they sampled came from Southern artists like James Brown.
