The Maccabiah Games--the largest show of Jewish strength and unity through sports--have concluded on Thursday in Israel. Almost 8,000 athletes from 64 nations competed in 37 sports. Even I, disinterested in competitive sports, was moved by the thousands of participants and their families who learned first hand about this modern, thiriving country that is not short of a miracle. There was not one person whose previous misinformed perceptions were left unchanged by the facts on the ground and by the closer look at the issues that are in the center of today's world politics.
But the importance of the Games is mostly in Jewish pride. Please read my article about a young man from Hungary whose life was profoundly changed by the Maccabiah experience: http://www.aish.com/sp/so/50204167.html
