"I'm going to canvas in Pennsylvania," an e-mail from a friend announces, urging her entire buddy list to come along on the bus. "The Republicans are doing dirty stuff in Florida," other Obama desperados are saying. "Do you want to watch the results together?" one asks before adding, "No, I think we'd better be alone."
We're experiencing the same urgency and anxiety New Yorkers typically show when the Yankees are playing. And, once again, we're reminded that New York (okay, parts of California also) is out of step with the rest of country (the "United States of America," as it's called by those who live elsewhere and wear patriotic lapel pins).
This election is more than the ultimate World Series. A loss won't be forgotten with a change of seasons. This is the one we HAVE to win.
