6 Tips For Healthy, Glowing Summer Skin

Believe it or not, the key to healthy, glowing summer skin is not basking in the sun. As a skin-tanning expert and organic foodie, I offer six tips for keeping your skin healthy and beautiful all summer long -- and even into the early autumn months. Sun exposure is responsible for up to 90 percent of aging damage. Minimizing UV exposure is the best way to prevent skin damage and many types of skin cancer. Let's face it, the sun is everywhere and it is no coincidence that you feel good when you're in it.

Studies show that sunlight exposure can affect your emotional well-being -- either by lifting your mood or leading to depression.

Safely use the sun to benefit your mood by spending 30 minutes outside, but never in direct sunlight. Some skin will always be exposed, so I'd recommend protecting it using sunscreen with an SPF of 30. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply frequently. Look chic on the beach with a great hat or umbrella. Skin cancer can develop in anyone. Know your skin and see your dermatologist annually.
