I answered a call to help out an author who was suffering from cancer and could not undertake her own publicity, and bought and read this book. I was glad to do it even without knowing if I'd like what I read. Now that I've read it, I'm REALLY, REALLY glad I did it. Patry's book has to be one of the most compelling reads I've ever enjoyed. Her prose is rich and genuine, her characters many-layered, the plot truly ingenious. I won't spoil the book for anyone who hasn't read it yet, but suffice it to say she masterfully uses a technique that in less skillful hands would be dangerous.
I could not put this book down, but gobbled it up in a few days. I hope the paperback sells like mad.
