Susan Laughter Meyers is the author of the poetry collection My Dear, Dear Stagger Grass, recently published as the inaugural winner of the Cider Press Review Editors Prize. It was also a finalist for the National Poetry Series, the Prairie Schooner Book Prize, and the Robert Dana Anhinga Poetry Prize. Meyers’s book Keep and Give Away (University of South Carolina Press, 2006) was selected by poet Terrance Hayes for the SC Poetry Book Prize. Subsequently it won the SIBA Book Award for Poetry and the Brockman-Campbell Book Award. Her chapbook Lessons in Leaving was selected by Brendan Galvin for the Persephone Press Book Award. Her poetry has also been published in numerous journals and anthologies, including The Southern Review, Crazyhorse, and Beloit Poetry Journal, as well as Poetry Daily, Verse Daily, and Ted Kooser’s column American Life in Poetry.
Meyers has been awarded fellowships from The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) and the SC Academy of Authors. She is a past president of the poetry societies of both North and South Carolina. She is also a past chair of the North Carolina Writers Conference. A long-time writing instructor, she has an MFA degree from Queens University of Charlotte. A North Carolina native, she grew up in Albemarle and Greenville, and now lives with her husband Blue in the rural community of Givhans, South Carolina.
