Ready to Serve, Ready to Save! is a collection of actual missions from around the world, written by the leaders in the search and rescue community. It conveys the harsh reality of what it is like to be on an actual mission. The book offers the statistics of the mission first, then the outcome. This way the reader can try to solve the mission first and then find out what happened.
Susan gives an overview of the book:
There are 24 missions in the book. They cover all types of situations, most use a dog but some do not. Learn about avalanches, suicides, hunting mishaps, water body recovery, homicides, bombings, and man-made disasters, tornados and firestorms. There is a special chapter that covers the stress syndrome (Critical Incident Stress Syndrome) associated with search and rescue.
