where the writers are
Albert Payson Terhune Memorial at Sunnybank

Hi All,

I thought that since this is a writers site some of you may be interested in an opportunity to help erect a memorial to Albert Payson Terhune and his Collies at Sunnybank, his home in Pompton Lakes, NJ.

I have copied the email I received about this project. I grew up collecting and reading almost everything he ever wrote. His stories were my childhood inspiration to be a writer and fueled my love of animals. If you respond to this blog I will be off line for about a week or two starting Sept 3. I will respond when I am back on line. I am sorry that I was not able to copy the pictures of the notes and bench into this blog.

Please help make a very special dream come true... It has long been the dream of a very special person to have a statue of The Master and his glorious chums, the Sunnybank Collies, erected at Sunnybank, that most magical place which we all hold dear.  Claire K. Leishman expressed this, her heart's wish, in a letter to a Terhune fan written on April 29, 1969, after learning that Sunnybank House had fallen victim to the wrecking ball.  We would like to make her dream come true, but we need your help. The Terhune Sunnybank Memorial hopes to bring The Master, The Mistress, and what they held precious back to Sunnybank in the form of this beautiful bench.  It depicts Sunnybank House with the wisteria they loved so much, the Terhunes surrounded by their beloved Collies, and the words and signature of The Master himself.  With the creation and placement of this bench, we honor Claire K. Leishman for her love of the Terhunes, her dedication to preserving The Place, her perseverance, and her ultimate accomplishment... keeping what was Sunnybank alive for us all. Accomplished artist Cora Culbert has granted the Terhune Sunnybank Memorial exclusive rights to reproduce her artwork of a Collie reading to her pups on these adorable 4 1/4" by 5 1/2" note cards, which we know you will enjoy using.  All proceeds from the sale of these note cards will be used to help with the cost of this endeavor. Our goal is to have the bench in place so that we may have the official dedication at the August 2009 Gathering.  It is through your generosity that Claire's dream will come true. Please accept our deepest and heartfelt thank you.
