Last night, I took a friend to Yoshi's in San Francisco for her birthday. We saw Shawn Colvin, and it was a terrific performance. An all-acoustic set, just Shawn, her voice, guitar, and amazing lyrics. "I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche." Beauty, beauty, beauty. And I loved her dress. I've seen Shawn two other times: at Slim's in San Fran in 1989 and at the Greek Theater in 1995, but this time was the best. It was poetry. It was duende. (For more info on duende, go to: http://www.musicpsyche.org/Lorca-Duende.htm)
Shawn will be at Yoshi's tonight. She has a memoir coming out in fall, 2009, A Few Small Repairs.
The food at Yoshi's is great, too, and a gorgeous restaurant. 1330 Fillmore at Eddy.
