Parochial stems from the word parish. Parochial can mean, "confined or restricted to a parish". The word parochial is often used to describe someone whose education is limited or narrow. There is an expression "parochial opinion". The definition of parochialism is "narrowness of interests or opinions". Although today, opinions coming from the parish are much more sophisticated.
