Joshua is a Hebrew name meaning, "the Lord is salvation". Joshua assisted Moses in the wilderness and took over as the leader of the Israelites when Moses died. Joshua acted as a spy for the Israelites and showed great leadership during the crossing of the River Jordan. Joshua was also a military man who led the Israelite Tribes to Canaan, the "Promised Land". Also pronounced Jehoshua, Jehoshuah and Oshea.
