When it was announced on Election Night that President Barack Obama had won Ohio and, therefore re-election, conservative talk host Dr. Michael Savage told his audience, “Drink the hemlock, Socrates.”
There is something Socratic, or recalling of Whittaker Chambers, in this. The Greek philosophers searched for truth. They said that even if nobody knew what truth was, or if only one person out of a million knew what it was, that did not change it from being true. There is something noble in the minority suffering the tyranny of the majority, as Chambers understood when faced with the withering hatred of the American Left excoriating him for having identified Democrat hero Alger Hiss as a paid Soviet spy.
“Innocence does not utter outraged shrieks, guilt does,” he exclaimed.
The Republican Party and most notably the conservative movement (or the Tea Party to be more precise) tends to be comprised of Christians, and in such a moment of defeat as this there is no greater solace than their faith. Chambers certainly relied on it; when Christ’s saving grace became known by him he told the FBI what he knew about Communist infiltration despite believing, as he said to his wife, “Honey, we’ve left the winning side of history to join the losing side.” In this we realize that to understand politics or anything else, we must understand man’s relationship to God or, as the great football-star-turned-pastor Charles Young said, “Yes, God does involve Himself in the affairs of man.”
Ours is a losing struggle. We are destined for defeat. We will die, and when we die our souls are ticketed to eternal damnation. Thus have we lived with this gloomy Calvinistic fact since man became cloaked by Original Sin in the Garden of Eden. Thus do we need a savior to staunch this terrible eternity. Thus does God involve Himself in the affairs of man. When Eve bit into the apple, God knew he could not merely delight in watching His children play and dance in Paradise. We would have to live on a frightful Earth, now suddenly prone to pestilence, war, corruption, hatred, prejudice, sickness, lies, deceit, death, and all other forms of evil. Satan had been loosed.
God would need to teach us how to live, how to die, and everything in between. He would teach us using what we knew and could understand. He would need sinners and tax collectors, football players, and prostitutes. He would need prophets, disciples, apostles, generals, armies, countries, and empires.
Many would be given lonely tasks.
Job would be forced to see all his wealth lost only to maintain his faith in the Lord.
Moses would be asked to face the Egyptian Army and wander for 40 years in the desert.
John the Baptist would cry in the wilderness that King Herod must repent of his sins, that sleeping with his wife’s sister was an affront to God, only to literally lose his head.
Jesus Christ would be betrayed by one disciple, abandoned by the rest to the cross.
History gives us many lonely individuals who used these examples in their own private struggles for truth and righteousness; men and women ranging from Joan of Arc to George Washington to Abraham Lincoln, or even Hollywood’s version of “God’s lonely man,” whether it be Henry Fonda up against the black hats in My Darling Clementine, or the long-suffering “Dirty Harry” Callahan.
These are the lessons American conservatives must learn while Europe cheers the re-election of President Obama; while Hollywood, the media, the comics and the pundits in equal parts read their obituaries, all the while mocking and making fun of their most precious beliefs.
These are, as Thomas Paine once wrote, “the times that try men’s souls.”
Christ told us we would be persecuted in His name. Go forth and wear this shield bravely as we defend life, defend Biblical values, defend our long held traditions against a torrent of unrighteousness, indecency and lies. Learn also from history; the history of God involving Himself in the affairs of man.
The Left laughs at such notions. Far-fetched, fanciful, moronic. The pejoratives, like Satan’s deceptions, are endless.
A few years ago, a radio preacher named Harold Camping proclaimed that the world was coming to an end on May 21, 2011. When that date came and went, he was mocked, disdainfully sent to the ash heap of history, but lost in his false prophecies were two important messages. One was regardless of whether He returned in 2011 or not, He will return at some point, and man must get as right with Him as possible before then. If a few million souls did that prior to May 21, 2011, and remain vigilant in faith to this day, then Camping did His work, albeit in a very strange way. But Camping also said something equally profound, which was that God used national Israel to teach us how to live. It was national Israel that produced the prophets, the laws of diet, of conduct, of marriage, of morality, of justice, and even of politics. It was national Israel that created the Old Testament, the Biblical laws that Jesus Himself was raised on, and it was in national Israel where Christ told us which of these laws were no longer needed, and which ones must be adhered to after the Crucifixion.
After Christ came to save us, in essence to teach us how to die, the Book of Revelation told us that He would return to judge the living and the dead, and that one of the essential signs of His Coming would be the restoration of national Israel, wiped out completely after He died on the cross. What stranger conundrum can there be than to consider that perhaps the most Satanic event in world history, the Holocaust, was most likely “necessary” for this event to take place, as it did in 1948? As it has often been said, “God moves in mysterious ways.”
Christ’s death may have been the saving grace for the billions who lived before his life, or who for a billion reasons never heard His message since, but the Bible told us “faith comes through hearing.” We are not merely automatons, given salvation by a God flipping a celestial light switch. We needed to do some work on our own, and that work was called faith. We needed to hear.
A world needed to hear in order to be saved. Not just a small group of Chosen People, but an entire world of humans of every ethnicity and color and persuasion. How would this happen? How would God, by involving Himself in the affairs of man, make it possible for the largest number of His children to come to “faith through hearing”?
The same God who used unlikely sinners; a tax collector, a prostitute, fishermen, a near naked, wild-eyed prophet, to start His flock, would expand that small band into nations, and through nations and their technologies would His word be heard.
The Greeks, who were a great empire centuries before Christ’s birth, paved the way through philosophy, exploring human truth and laying the foundation for Democracy, a form of government that would expand human freedom and success in a way that would make it possible for the greatest number of men to hear Christian truth. Their empire would come to an end, apparently when they had done the work God put them on Earth to accomplish.
The Romans replaced the Greeks. Here we have a conundrum like the Nazis. Just as it was Nazi persecution of the Jews that ultimately made a sympathetic world accept the restoration of Biblical Israel, here were the murderers of Christ and the persecutors of His disciples, the empire of Nero, who did the “work” needed to spread Christ’s message from Jerusalem to the countryside, across the seas, into Europe and beyond. Consider Christ’s timing, the apex of the Roman Empire. Nothing could have made greater sense.
The Romans built roads. They had ships. Their legions spread Roman life far and wide. They were a nation of heralds and scribes, dutifully recording their history and, in so doing, spreading the word of what happened in their empire. The saving grace of Christ happened within their empire. It was through Roman inventions such as ships and roads, that Paul and the other apostles journeyed forth, some using the imprimatur of Roman citizenship, to tell the Greeks, the Italians and the other Europeans, the good news. It was eventually the moral message of Christ, at first resonating with the women of Rome, tired of the sexual depravities of their society, who tamed the savage breasts of their husbands, turning an empire into a Vatican. God had used Rome to involve Himself in the affairs of man.
He used the French to promote art and beauty, but the French Revolution marks the end of God’s use of that culture. He used the British to promote trade and commerce, but World War II marked the end of the British Empire. Winston Churchill literally told Franklin D. Roosevelt that the transformation was complete; de-colonization begun. America was now the greatest empire in the annals of Mankind.
Ah, America. The New Athens, the New Jerusalem, the New Rome.
The New Promised Land.
From it’s earliest beginnings it was Biblical in nature. The Puritans came here for religious freedom, and saw in its virgin landscape a . . . New Eden. The Founding Fathers, despite the vicious historical revisionism of the secularists, won a war, wrote a Constitution, and built a country on Christian principles. Its citizenry gave their towns names like Bethel, Bethlehem, and New Canaan. Here was a place that could start fresh, an educated, God-fearing citizenry building a nation with the incredible advantage of historical lessons learned; a chance to avoid the mistakes of Rome, England, and France. The Frenchman Alexis DeTocqueville came to find out what it was all about and concluded, above all other consideration, that the tie binding the citizenry was an intense belief in God. Indeed, it was a nation favored by God Almighty, just as surely as He favored the Israelites, while using His miraculous powers to foil their enemies.
God involved Himself in the affairs of man.
He used the United States of America to promote Democracy, to end slavery, and in just the nick of time, to become strong enough, powerful enough, and brave enough to defeat the combined powers of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. In a battle between good and evil, the proxies of Satan and God did battle. Good prevailed. Finally, He used America to defeat international Communism, a political ideology responsible for the murder of some 100 million human beings worldwide.
Beyond this, he used America to win the Industrial Revolution, and in so doing spread technology to all four corners of the globe. Through America, black Africans, Orientals, and all citizens of what came to be known as the Third World had a place to escape to, a beacon of freedom that not only could be the new home to many, but would through its electricity, its radio, its television, its world wide web and its social media, spread the saving word of Jesus Christ to as many human beings as possible. Where darkness reigned, the light of the world would emerge. In so doing, billions and billions would experience “faith through hearing.”
In understanding this, in realizing how God involves Himself in the affairs of man, can we begin to apply philosophy and understanding to the recent Presidential election and the role of America. In so doing, we must consider the very real possibility that God has used us for His purposes, but that time has come to an end. Ask yourself if God continues to favor a nation that aborts 55 million babies since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling. Further ask yourself if He still favors a nation that elects Barack Hussein Obama twice. A man whose pastor once declared that God does not bless America, but rather “God d—n America” because “it’s in the Bible.”
There have been times in our past in which we may well have asked ourselves this question. The post-Vietnam/Watergate period comes to mind, but the Reagan ‘80s assuredly put to an end that notion. There is a certain conceit in this self-abasement, the idea that we are so unworthy that we must cast ourselves out of paradise. It would unquestionably take a Reagan to lift us from this morass, but there is absolutely no sign of any Reagans anywhere to be found. No Washingtons, Jeffersons, Lincolns, Roosevelts, Pattons, Marshalls, or Eisenhowers, either, not to mention any Churchills.
Who are we? What have we become? Are these distressing signals signs and wonders of the Apocalypse? Some have considered whether Obama himself is the anti-Christ, although most scholars feel such a figure is a malevolent spirit loosed on Earth more so than a man in the world of politics, mostly a Hollywood construct.
But consider Obama’s greatest influence, the Communist street agitator Saul Alinsky. If you are a conservative licking his wounds after Mitt Romney’s defeat, think how you feel about yourself right now. We are made to believe we are racists, forced to repent for opposing this black fellow and having the temerity to possess knowledge of his faults, not to mention his failures. How dare we even think such horrid things, must less express them, or post links detailing them on Facebook?!
It was only the Latino-heavy vote in California late in the evening that pushed Obama past Romney in the popular tally This was no landslide, but according to Chris Matthews if you were among those 58,222,278 American citizens who comprise just under 50 percent of the resistance to a President barely re-elected with the weakest majority in history, we must fill the air with mea culpas over our mean-spirited attacks on this “cool” fellow who just took it all with “grace,” when in fact he ran the most negative, foul campaign imaginable against a moderate Christian gentleman who took the high road all the way to the end.
There is something white-is-black-black-is-white going on here; something rotten, a lie, a falsehood, the kind of deception that has always earmarked Satan’s corruption of Mankind. Obama took a “mandate,” don’t you understand? The fact the Republican Party easily held the House and gained Governorships is not supposed to mean anything to you. In fact, put it out of your mind. Be mesmerized by Obama. Let the sorcerer spin his magic. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
How do we explain our “racism”? If we are the Christian majority, how do we explain that it was beyond all other considerations Christianity fueling both Abolition and then integration of the South, yet somehow, some way, after all that good work suddenly to be Christian is to be tarred with this label of racism?
What about all this cultural rot? Despite 31 states rejecting gay marriage, the media has placed forth the predominant notion that it is a universally accepted thing. After all, our Dear Leader now accepts it, and he is our moral teacher, is he not? Forget about actually calling homosexuality a sin, despite the fact that all sex outside of marriage, including the most heterosexual bar-hopping male tomcat picking up a scantily-clad hottie for a one night stand, is of course also a sin. Think about this for a second. In not acknowledging the sinful nature of the homosexual act, gays are saying to God their way is the better way; they need not live as God instructs them to live. In so doing they fall into Satan’s most devious trap, which is the sin of pride and vanity. It is not the act itself, as bad as it is. It is in not calling it a sin that man angers God, who knows you are a sinner, sent His only begotten son to save you from your sins, who asks only that you cry out to him and beg for this act of forgiveness, the heart of Christian faith. But no, instead we live in a world of, and get this for irony, gay pride.
Bill Maher, Janeane Garafolo, a world of with-it pundits, comics, Hollywood hipsters, foul-mouthed misogynist rappers, and all other staple of the American Left, laugh at you for your dinosaur values. You are, as talk host Jerry Doyle puts it, “too white, to Right and too uptight.” You are told that if your chosen political party is ever to regain power, you must change your deepest heartfelt beliefs, because a minority of voters – blacks and Latinos, specifically – do not agree with you. Oh no, the possibility that a day will ever come in which a large segment of these blacks and Latinos, or any other “minority,” will ever organically come to see the wisdom of your side lacks possibility.
This is how the devil does it. It is, in fact, how Saul Alinsky and his disciples do it. Alinsky taught his legion of radicals to mock, make fun of and marginalize you, to use the immoral elements of cultural media to laugh at you. You are uncool. You are not with it. The public schools, academia, the media, the Left, all combine to push their agenda from cradle to grave.
“Global warming” is their religion. How dare you believe in Jesus Christ, but if you do, make it quiet, why don’t you? God forbid you should actually do as God instructs you, which is to go forth and spread His message to others. No, if you do that, if you dare to possess knowledge on Facebook that 55 million babies have been aborted, or that Christ is Truth and does not like it, somebody will send a dirty joke back at you saying something like “religion is like a penis and it, like a penis, should not be shoved down anybody’s throat, least of all the young.”
Sure, if you are a decent Christian proud to tell His story, unashamed of His perfection, you are tantamount to a child molester. So, be silent and contemplate the possibility that your unbeliever friend who you love will at some point in the future be writhing in the flames of hell for all eternity largely because you did not want to “offend” him.
This is how Satan operates. He has his disciples, too. Those who decry His depiction in town squares, who despise beseeching Him with prayer among our school young, who want mention of him removed.
“The truth,” as Christ said, “shall make ye free,” but do we get truth in our politics, or in our media? Consider the indications of Barack Obama’s sure defeat. After his historic 2008 victory, he and his party suffered humiliation after humiliation: special election Republican gubernatorial wins in Virginia and New Jersey; Scott Brown’s Massachusetts Senate upset; the 2010 mid-term “shellacking”; a Republican Congressional win in Brooklyn, followed by Scott Walker’s Wisconsin victories. Economic history told us no President with such failed statistics had been re-elected since the Great Depression. A University of Colorado economic model told us no President with Obama’s record in August of any Presidential year had won re-election in over four decades. The 2010 census, coming in confluence with a plethora of Republican gubernatorial and state legislative wins, meant a re-structuring of Congressional districts and Electoral votes favorable to Mitt Romney. But do not fret over the loss of Senate seats that seemed a sure thing, hoary predictions of six or seven GOP pick-ups, close elections in red states that miraculously, out of thin air, miracle of miracles somehow beyond all human understanding, were won by Democrats. Do not question the fact that men who believe in th Lord and expressed the Christian thesis that all life is Godly, that all children are His, were roundly beaten, excoriated by the media and the foul minds of the feminist Left.
Even re-reading of Teddy White’s The Making of the President, 1972 emphasized how Richard Nixon told GOP leaders unless he could lower unemployment below 5.5. percent, he stood no chance. Obama stands “victorious” with 8.0 unemployment draped around his neck, a “fiscal cliff” that in fact represents in many ways a Democrat pipe dream of taxation soaking the public looming.
Consider this “fiscal cliff” and the word traitor. Consider what a traitor would do. He would sign TARP, attaching almost $1 trillion of debt to a once-great nation with one fell swoop. He would amass debt (soon $20 trillion) so great no great nation could work its way out from under it, doubling it in four years, twice the pace previously embarked upon. He would sell us out to a country where Mao Tse-tung killed 55 million humans. He would burden his nation with unwanted socialized health care. He would nationalize beloved car companies.
He would not compromise with the loyal opposition, and he would allow the country to fall off the “fiscal cliff.”
Consider this little-referenced bit of 2012 exit polling data. 35 percent of the voters call themselves conservative, 25 percent liberal, and 41 percent moderate. For years, 41 percent used to call themselves conservative, compared to 18 percent liberal. Liberalism used to be a dirty word, but if this data is true, this “dirty” group is now seven percent greater share of the population than before, in essence meaning the balance of power hurts the Right to the tune of some 13 percent. Worse is the 41 percent who call themselves moderate, because it seems obvious “moderate” is more liberal-Democrat than conservative-Republican.
We learn that computers in Romney’s campaign headquarters, which were the heart of the get out the vote drive on Election Day, suddenly stopped working. Could this have been Democrat sabotage? It is not likely we will ever find out, any more than we will ever find out what really happened in Libya, or ever hear General David Petraeus actually tell us what he knows about Barack Obama or whether his “Chicago way” did to him what they did to his 2004 Senate opponent, Jack Ryan. Any more than the Clintons were ever convicted of the murder of Arkansas opponents standing in the way of their rise to power, or their selling missile technology to China through the Lippo Group, allowing their nukes to now reach our shores.
We are left to simply ponder such things, wayward souls considering the possibility that if indeed Obama’s people sabotaged Romney’s computers, they were aided by a malevolent spirit allowed to prosper because God no longer favors America because when the time to stand up and stop those 55 millions abortions came, we were too weak, too cowardly, and too politically correct to do His will any more. The unrighteous thus thrive. People who sell their souls for power or Hollywood fame. But we are too impure to see their faces resemble jackals instead of movie stars.
So dear people, we now live in a country in which a prominent university study determined that Bruce Springsteen is “ranked” as a greater American than Dwight Eisenhower. The battle has been fought, and the revenge Barack Obama told his voters with a look of hatred on his ugly face to exact is upon us. The exacters of that revenge are Bill Maher, Janeane Garafolo, George Clooney, Jay Z, Michael Moore, Larry Flynt, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Eric Holder, Anita Dunn, Van Jones, Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Saul Alinsky, Hugo Chavez, Ed Schultz, the New Black Panthers, Code Pink, and their ilk.
No, no, no, you are not the parents of your children anymore. Foul-mouthed rappers and comics, misogynists and immoralists, homosexuals, child molsters, drug addicts and porn stars; they now hold that responsibility. Liberals who never in a million years will ever accomplish what you accomplish are now free to go forth and place forth the fiction that all the great things you have done are not actually great. Instead, these things are racist, greedy, immoral. The half-ass, the second rate, the unimpressive, the low rent; now that’s the new greatness. Can’t you get that through your thick heads?
Oh, those reports about election fraud in Ohio and elsewhere? We are not supposed to ask questions about that, or concern ourselves with the motives of these moral betters. Watch your reality shows and your music videos. Wallow in the juices of recrimination, sorry to have ever offended the sensibilities of such moral high grounders as Bill Maher or Chris Mathews, or dare find fault with the put-upon black fellow in the White House who so graciously, so patiently absorbs the slings and arrows of all you yahoo white Christians who actually read, ponder and question him.
No, America, you got what you deserve. In 2008 you could be excused. You did not know who Barack Obama was. This no where man from no where with no record pulled the wool over your eyes. You voted to prove how unracist you really are. Hooray for you. But this time you knew. We knew all about Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Frank Marshall Davis, Obamacare, TARP, even Benghazi and “Fast and Furious,” and all the rest of the sordid record. If you voted out of a belief in God, to oppose abortion; if you voted out of the quaint oppositon tio Socialism, you were roundly defeated.
Worry not over whether a malevolent spirit has taken over America. Do not ask whether we are still favored by God. Do not dare consider the possibility that we are just “another nation,” to quote President Obama, that American Exceptionalism is dead, that in fact the signs of these times might be signs of the End Times, or that God no longer uses us for His purposes.
Perhaps we have done our part, which can be summed up in how Robert Luce wanted to use the power of his media empire to save China from Communism, which is to make the world so free, so prosperous and so open to communications that the largest number of people who can hear the word of God - even in China - have heard the word of God, and that the only thing to do now is wait for His return. His will be done.
