Author/historian STEVEN TRAVERS, who played on Redwood High School’s 1977 national championship baseball team, will address Redwood journalism students on campus Friday, May 25, 8 A.M. – 1:20 P.M. Travers played three years for coach Al Endriss’s Giants from 1975-77. The 1977 squad finished 33-4, won the CIF-North Coast Section championship, and was voted “mythical national champions” by Collegiate Baseball magazine and the Easton Bat Company. Redwood won back-to-back NCS championships (1977-78) in addition to back-to-back Tournament of Champions titles (1973-74). The ’77 squad played against the Taiwanese national champions in a famous game before some 10,000 fans at Redwood in what the Marin Independent Journal voted the “sports event of the decade” (1970s). Coach Endriss was named National Coach of the Year (1976) and the 1978 team finished number two in the nation. In 1980 The Sporting News voted Redwood the “National High School Baseball Program of the Decade” (1970s).
