Reading the science journals can simply be mind blowing. During a break, I skimmed through a copy of the Scientific American and found that they had name particles after those guys on the beach who would later be transformed into Charles Atlas, if only they subscribed - except the Wimps that become Super Wimps in the Cosmos are super weak. Anyway there seems to be a shadow universe or cosmos - just like the discovery of Jupiter was discovered by forces - here the detection of Wimps and other classes of dark matter particles will be discovered by the presence of this and that. Sounds very much like Marvel Comics to me - Batman of the Dark Cosmos.
In the same issue a serious matter about the use of genetic technology that can literally "enlighten" us about the nervous system . Forget about ethics - I am worried about the consequences of introducing novel material into the brain.
But probably the most disturbing fact is that in the US alone, there are 50,000 types of chemicals used in industry etc, and their impact on the environment and health have not been properly regulated, indeed a very small percentage have been checked and of those some have been held to be dangerous. So what about the rest!!!
It is in the interest of everyone to be more proactive in making science accountable - not of course preventing progress, but steering it in a safer direction. Ask your representatives about those compounds!
