where the writers are
Eye-Witness

Science tells us
the mind does not
capture photographically
what we see and hear,
but edits as it goes;
deleting some details
and altering others.
We recall, at best,
memories of memories:
rumors started
by the mind,
clues,
parts of dreams,
embellishments
of moments
that were not actually
that magical.
What we remember
is never real,
and the eye-witness,
however compelling,
nevertheless gives
the most unreliable

testimony of all.
