Some of us are a little slower.
From what I understand, the 50,000-words written in a month for NaNoWriMo are rarely publishable but serve to produce the first rough draft. In fact, the advice for reaching the goal of writing 50,000 words is to resist the temptation to revise and save revisions for the month of December. I have trouble with that because as soon as I write 500 words or so, I have to re-read it and re-write it. I also always re-read everything before starting a new day of writing and I always find things to revise. I recently heard Denis Johnson say that he writes slowly before reading from an unpublished manuscript that he has been working on for the last six years. It was a scene, but he said maybe he will publish it as a flash fiction with other short pieces.
But I don't think I could write that many words in a month even if I used the same word.
