This is my first year of NaNoWriMo and I only found out about it on October 31st, just a few hours before midnight. Not much time for me to prepare for it, as many other Wrimos have. My first thought when I read about NaNoWriMo was, "omg it's been around for ten years and I'm just now hearing about it?!" So, of course I was going to participate, without hesitation. So I spent my time, starting around 10pm PST, writing a very basic outline and creating a few main characters, and as soon as the clock hit 12:00am I began my story.
Now I had assumed I would be doing it by myself, considering I wouldn't be able to go to any write-ins in my area, and none of my friends are the writing type. However, I was elated to find that people in Second Life (an online virtual world) have also created groups and places for people to have in-game write-ins. So, I have found that doing it with other people to talk to is a great source of inspiration and motivation to get things done. I am currently around 12,500 words on the sixth day, and although my excitement has started to fade into somewhat of a grind to get things done and keep going, I'm confident that I will finish my 50,000 words and quite possibly become the first novel I have ever completed, and that, in itself, is extremly exciting.
And speaking of that, I think I had better get back to writing! It's nearly six-o'clock in the morning and I haven't started yet! Tsk! Need to get my 2,000 more words (at least) in today!
