I first began my journey creating my children's book in 2004, at a peace conference in Paris for the HumanDignity and Humiliation studies global network. It was there that I met and was inspired by the work of Dr. Robert Fuller, the author of the Somebody/Nobody, Abuse of Rank. He coined a new term that would become the basis of my research and work, rankism, the mother of all ism's. Rankism is the abuse of power associated with rank. Robert actually helped and encouraged me to get my first book out there, which I self-published through AuthorHouse. I hit the road, went to schools, teachers conventions and applied the typical tools for 'self promoting'. It was geniune sweat, hardwork, but I believed in the message of the somebody/nobody dynamic, and eventually, it paid off. I finally signed up and released the book again retitled, DignityRocks! with HappyAbout Publications.
So, what is dignity? I asked that all the time to teens that I work with, children that I have gotten input from, and for me it is still rather difficult emotion/term to define. So my journey continues and hopefully opening up dialogs on dignity that could help make a difference.
I went back to school. Yes, at 54 I graduated with my AA in Social and Behavior Science Emphasis (seriously, that is what it is called...). I had started when I was a teen still in high school, but got seriously derailed, and never went back until now. I was accepted into undergraduate school at Palo Alto University, but had to put it on hold until a night program is taken off the chopping block.
