Overcoming the nervousness of reading in public

Well, I had my first book reading last night at the Ojai Art Center with four other authors. Everyone was outstanding! I have to admit that I was quite nervous to get up in front of a good-sized crowd, but once I got into reading my chapter, I calmed right down and did the best I could at put a little emotion and 'acting' into the reading. I opened with a brief preface about Maria Deraismes, 19th century French feminist who promoted equality and women's  rights, and was one of the first women to be initiated as a Freemason. I think it was well-received, at least I hope it was! Overall, it was a fun night and now I'm actually looking forward to the next one. Equality and freedom of rights is such a hot topic right now and as we can see globally, history is repeating itself. People crave equality and will always fight for their basic rights, even if it takes them a while to figure out a way to do it.
