Well, I sometimes feel spoiled because I have an absolutely wonderful writing room, a windowed balcony filled with tons and tons of plants, but then other times, that beautiful room turns into a distraction. I find myself daydreaming, looking at my plants, or tending to them, looking out the windows at the trees or birds or children playing below. Then, worst of all, my cats enjoy the room as well because of the sun that streams in for a few hours in the morning and afternoon. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my cats (hairless Sphynx), but it's very hard to write with a cat on your shoulder, on your lap or strolling across your keyboard.
I finally couldn't take the distractions any longer today and had to surrender the room to the cats and make a hasty retreat to my nearby Starbucks. Sure Starbucks is noisy and filled with people coming in and out, chatting or placing orders, but you know what, all of that hustle and bustle was exactly what I needed for a short getaway. It was a change of scenery and I was able to block everything out and write like mad. I was maybe gone for an hour, but I managed to write five pages of my manuscript.
I now feel refreshed and ready to go back to my writing room. Especially since the cats are now napping on my bed!
