Lucky Stroke

A lucky accidental stroke led to the invention of the first friction match. One day in 1827 an english chemist named  John Walker struck a stick coated with potash and antimony against the floor and its burst into flame. Although Walker's first matches were made of cardboard, he cut by hand. Later, he packaged the matches in a cardboard box equipped wih a piece of sandpaper for striking.

Q. Why is it considered unlucky to light three cigarettes with one match?

A.The supertition goes back to th boer war (1899) when British soldier conceived matches by using one to light three cigarettes. The illumination gave a snipes time to zero in one of the soldiers, and the third man was often a perfect target.
