Do you remember the Robin Williams movie "Good Morning Vietnam?". Mr. Williams is a versitile actor in his own time; and that is what we need to be is versitile.
The way you think about things soon leads to how you feel about the subject and visa-versa. Ok, so you have to get up a half hour earlier for work to check your glucose reading, take your meds and eat; do it with gusto.
If you are one of those people that turn the morning news on, STOP! For that extra half hour if you have to have the television on play upbeat relaxing music, a comedy show you taped and haven't watched yet or a myraid of endorphin lifting ideas. Do not depress yourself right off. The day in day out grind of bad news wears on the body. We all know what happens to the diabetic that becomes depressed right? You may not be aware of how sneaky worries and cares effect your glucose.
Put a slide show of your children and family on the tv with soft music, while you are finishing your morning medicine routine. Find something that will make you laugh, not just a smile but a chuckling belly laugh. Have you ever noticed how contagious a baby's laugh is? Yes, you men out there can get away with these ideas too.
Practice that ballroom dance step you always wanted to do when no one was looking. Stick your hair straight up and cross your eyes! I promise if you do it quietly the grandkids won't know about it. Draw a face on your pop-pastry, better still xoxoxo for your spouse...it can only get better.
Once you have indulged in a little humor therapy, start your morning routine.
Here is one for the road (albiet a little corny)
There once was a family of sweet potatoes.
A Mama, Daddy and pretty little girl.
The pretty little girl grew up to be a beautiful sweet potatoe.
Her mom and dad worked hard to be in the potato high society.
They hoped for a good social match for thier darling baby.
One day to the parents devastation, baby girl said she was in love.
Who? They asked.
Dan Rather (sorry Mr. Rather this is how I heard it)
Dan Rather!! You can not have anything to do with him!
Why? cried the broken hearted sweetie.
Because he is a common-tater! they replied.
On that note I will leave, Dr. O'Neal says I will be lucky to have anyone read after that joke.
