Hello every diabetic has found themselves thinking, that it won't hurt just this one time to skip the accu check reading or my medicine. A mistake is just that a mistake, if you take care of the over sight later it more than likely will not have long term effects on your diabetes control.
If you find yourself skipping blood checks, medicines and not taking care of small cuts and scratches you might be contending with depression.
Diabetes is a chronic disease. The diagnosis itself is enough to make some feel depressed. It is a round robin effect, the diabetes makes you feel depressed and depression makes you feel like ignoring your diabetes care. As we all know ignoring your diabetes can lead to even greater health care issues such as heart attack, stroke and loss of vision and limbs.
If you have symptoms of depression contact your health care provider. Medication coupled with therapy is the best way to go. Many drug companies have programs to help with medication costs. Don't forget employee benefits, many companies offer free sets of counseling for their employees.
