COS was was tapped to do the book video for Nic Sheff's highly acclaimed novel, Tweak. The book was an Oprah pick and featured on her show. Nic has also been on other TV shows and featured in major magazines.
I was so thrilled that Simon & Schuster Publishing gave us this important project. I awaited the arrival of the book so I could read it and write the script.
Reading the book was an experience. I can honestly say that it is very deserving of all of this attention. It is an amazing book. But it was a deeply personal book too. I have a family member that has an addiction that was every bit as bad as Nic's. It was eye-opening to read a story from the point of view of the addict. I wondered how much of this story could be applied to my family member. I think a lot of it could.
I wrote the script knowing that I had been deeply affected by the book. I wasn't sure they would like it. It was edgy and I put into it knowledge that I have...my philosophy...as inspired by similar events. I thought, "this is the common denominator for these experiences". Sometimes you cannot un-do something. You cannot un-see it. You cannot un-know it. I can't tell you how many times I've said that over the course of my 41 years.
I'm very proud of the video. You can see it here- TWEAK
I watch it over and over again, thinking of the story, of the lives. I hope that every young person, every old person, every person who has ever endured an addiction or endured the fallout of loving and addict reads this. Finally...I've found a book that Oprah and I agree on.
