Is it just me or has the world of journalism become lazy? It seems lately the news is full of lazy dialogue. When, as professionals, did we start calling children kids, kidnapped as snatched, and the president as “Obama”? Is it not the duty of professionals to have the highest of standards? Or have we become a society of “average”?
I, personally, believe those of us who represent a group of people who have studied the English language and have made it an integral part of their profession should be held to the highest of standards. As fiction writers we do have the luxury of breaking all the rules. As a non-fiction writer we have a stricter guideline for polished works.
I ask again – is it just me or are there others out there that feel the same?
