I did it! My quest to survive National Novel Writing Month ended last night with 52,872 validated words. Of course, my buddy Ben (from the online critique group, Writing Well) stayed several steps ahead of me during the entire month of November. What better incentive could one hope for?
So. . .thank you, Ben!
A few authors in my writing group poo-pooed the NaNoWriMo effort, saying things like it burns out your muse, never mind the truckload of stress and temporary euphoria. But I say, NO, turning to the old adage: don't knock it, unless you've tried it. NaNoWritMo was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to any writer, and I'm so glad I saw it through to the sweet end.
Now the real work begins. I have the bones of a pretty fair novel in Mangroves and Monsters. Lots of island adventure and romance. Old characters revisited, the arrival of new ones. I'm anxious to see where it all takes me.
Aren't we writers a lucky lot?
Until next time. . .take care of yourselves, have a blessed Thanksgiving - and as always, happy reading!
