Let me tell you, it’s an amazing undertaking to put together a readers and writers conference that brings together the best contemporary authors, agents and editors, plus musical talent, all while honoring classic literature. But Faulkner Society’s Rosemary James and agent Michael Murphy have done just that!
If you haven’t yet made your plans to attend (November 19-22) – get hustling; this is one event in the Big Easy you won’t want to miss! To learn more, visit wordsandmusic.org. To see a schedule of events, CLICK HERE. And to see a sneak preview of this year’s phenomenal faculty, CLICK HERE!
Heads up: If you’re a writer, you’ve got until October 15th to submit manuscript pages for critique by an editor AND an agent – hurry! A feature of this year’s festival will be exploring the noir side of literature, with a look at Big Read selection, The Maltese Falcon.
Now, forget everything I just told you (or file it away in a safe place), and know this: I’ve been to plenty of book/author/reader/writer conferences. I’ve even promoted/produced them. But nothing — and I mean NOTHING — compares to this event.
True, it’s New Orleans, and that’s something wicked and special all on its own. Also true, the host Hotel Monteleone, this year celebrating ten years as a national literary landmark, has a special energy all its own. But besides the vibrant city and the pulsing location (complete with its spinning bar and bloody bulls), this conference is special because of the intimacy it offers to participants. With nearly as many faculty as students, the atmosphere is relaxed, and at the same time, supercharged… with abundant knowledge, free-flowing advice, and an umatched generosity of spirit.
It’s one event I never miss. And as I’m fond of saying (to anyone who’ll listen) — You attend other conferences to make contacts – you head to Words & Music to build relationships…
Really hope to see you in the Big Easy…
